I had the absolute pleasure of accompanying our fifth-grade Rockets on their overnight trip last week to the Blue Ridge Outdoor Education Center, and what a wonderful experience it was! It was so special see our Rockets learning together outside the walls of a classroom. We trekked through the woods on hiking adventures, climbed into the creek to search for crawfish and macroinvertebrates, and met some of Georgia’s native species up close - including Perry the snake! I loved getting to spend this time with our fifth graders and watching their curiosity, independence, and sense of community shine. Special shout out to both the volunteer chaperones and Mary Lin teachers & staff who gave their personal time to make this experience possible for our kiddos!
Believe it or not, we have already reached the end of our first grading term! Term 1 Report Cards will come home in Thursday folders this week. I encourage families to take some time to review your child’s report card together. And remember - report cards do not have to be the first time you check in on how things are going! Families of students (K-5) can use the Infinite Campus Parent Portal any time to review important information such as attendance records, assignment completion, and grades/academic progress. If you have not yet accessed your Parent Portal account, or if you simply need a refresher on how to log in, APS provides directions here. Regularly checking the portal is a great way to stay connected to your Rocket’s progress and partner with your child and their teacher throughout the school year.
Lastly, what a turnout for Bike, Walk, and Roll to School Day on Wednesday! We had more than 300 participants who chose alternative transportation - skyrocketing Mary Lin to FIRST PLACE in our category for the Love to Ride Biketober Challenge! Biketober lasts all month, so please remember to sign up and track your rides throughout October. Every ride counts, whether you are biking to school, commuting to work, riding through the neighborhood, or heading out for a weekend adventure.
